In this position, a Pipe Welder / Maintenance Mechanic can expect to be responsible for the following:
Day to day welding includes, but is not limited to, piping systems, plate, tube, and structural shapes as specified by layout, blueprints, drawings, welding procedures, work order, etc. Majority work performed is pipe welding; require to pass a 6g pipe test on ½" heavy wall and also 2" pipe is required to certify. Must be able to demonstrate basic mechanical skills in welding, pipefitting and fabrication, construction blue print reading, maintenance related troubleshooting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Should be able to pass ASME Section IX welder qualification tests subject to visual inspection, bend tests, tension tests and radiography.
- Initial test will be on a 2" double extra heavy carbon steel pipe coupon in the 6G position using GTAW root and hot pass and completing with SMAW fill and cap.
- Additional qualifications may include:
- Stainless and aluminum GTAW (pipe)
- Stainless and carbon steel SMAW (pipe)
- Stainless and carbon steel GMAW (plate)
- Examine welds for compliance with procedure and acceptance criteria
