Upside down economics

An interesting essay suggesting that the entire US economy rests on the energy and food sectors, illustrated by an upside down triangle depiction, because it places all economic activity on top of activities derived from nature (agriculture, forestry, mining, oil and gas). This is an important point, because conventional economists routinely under-count the contribution of natural systems to economic activities. Very much worth the read.
