Horton Sphere

Impossible made possible by Vijay Tanks & Vessels

....Created history by undertaking the responsbility for shipment of spherical pressure vessel to LNG project

Vijay Tanks & Vessels (P) Limited  established since 1956 are a pioneer in the design and fabrication of large storage tanks, spheres, cryogenic tanks  and refrigerated tanks, pressure vessels and process equipment of all description  for the refinery, petrochemicals,  fertilizers,  steel, paper and power industries.

Vijay Tanks & Vessels (P) Limited (VTV), have a good reputation both in India and in the international market for their competent handling of projects with a very high accent on quality requirement. They have added one more feather to their cap by undertaking the responsibility for shipment of a spherical pressure vessel to the prestigious LNG project of Chevron in Australia.

While interacting with Daily Shipping Times Mr A V Jayraman, General Manager of Vijay Tanks & Vessels said, "Vijay Tanks has created a history of exporting spherical tank in one single piece".

Chevron Australia Pty Limited is setting up Gorgon LNG Project at Barrow Island, Australia. Kellog Joint Venture-Gorgon(KJVG), (a joint venture of KBR, JGC, CPA & HAP), acting on behalf of Chevron have undertaken placement of the Package orders across the Globe. Refrigerant Propane Storage Sphere is one amongst these package units, which has been ordered on Vijay Tanks & Vessels (P) Limited, India.

The sphere is of 16.7M diameter, overall height of 20.5M and 545tons in weight, which has been designed, fabricated on piled foundation, tested, painted and delivered to ship at Kandla Port for shipment to Australia.

The sphere is designed to ASME U2 code stamping requirements  and in conformance to Australian Regulations.

The Authorized Inspector for this project is M/s Lloyds Register. Besides the design codes requirements, the sphere is designed to withstand the huge shipping loads envisaged during the sea voyage with saddle arrangement specially designed for this purpose .

This is the first time such an ASME U2 code stamped spherical tank of this dimension is being exported in one piece from India and in all likelyhood in the world.

The other sailent features of this project includes:

•Design& construction of piled foundation to sustain hydro test load of 3000tons.

•Locating the assembly of the sphere in close proximity to Kandla port for feasibility of inland transportation.

•Arrangement of  Self Propelled Mechanical Trailers in a manner that permitted safe transport to the jetty.
