Wood Environment & Infrastructure (E&I) business line is currently recruiting for an Environmental Technician. This role will be based in our office in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia and will be working on projects across different sectors.
Wood employs over 36,000 professionals, with our E&I business line including over 7,000 employees globally working across several sectors, including: master planning, infrastructure engineering and construction, project and construction management, water resources management, water and waste water treatment, waste management, transportation, environmental remediation and environmental consulting; plus we also support our Clean Energy, Industrial / Pharmaceuticals, Mining and Oil & Gas business lines. This role will also involve interfacing with fellow E&I professionals in our offices in Europe and North America.
- Collect sediment, soil and groundwater samples and prepare samples for testing, record data, maintain field logs and prepare summary reports electronically
- Conduct multi-media sampling including soil, groundwater, vapor, indoor air, asbestos, and other regulated materials
- Conduct indoor air quality investigations
- Perform field tests according to prescribed procedures, processes and standards using field instruments and other environmental equipment
- Accurate and appropriate data gathering in support of performed field activities, with subsequent generation of clearly-written and understandable daily field reports
- Conduct oversight of subcontractors, including drillers (direct push, sonic, and hollow stem auger), remediation contractors and emergency response contractors
- Evaluate compliance of subcontractor work against technical specifications and scopes of work
- Conduct oversight of erection of mechanical and hydraulic equipment / soil and groundwater remediation systems
- Operate and Maintain (O&M) groundwater soil and groundwater remediation systems such as mobile Hydraulic Extraction Systems, P&T Systems, mobile Air Sparging and Soil Vapour Extraction System and Emitters Systems, Skimmer treatment Systems
- Conduct emergency response efforts in response to spills or other client requests
- Conduct scientific assessment and analysis within key subject matter areas
- Demonstrate technical competency in soil and groundwater remediation
- The position may entail approximately 90% field work and 10% HO work
Skills / Qualifications
- Bilingual: English and Arabic
- High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of experience working in the Middle East
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental engineering or sciences is preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of working experience in the environmental field with reference to groundwater treatment systems
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to use laboratory and / or test equipment in an effective and safe manner
- Trained with 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER
- Self-starter with good communication skills
- Flexible to work outside normal business hours as required
- Willingness to travel to project sites
