Herb of the Century ~ Garlic

Garlic:
Latin name: Allium sativum

Nature's Antibiotic:
 When it comes to Colds, Flu, Viruses, Parasites, Inflammation, Warts, Fungi and Plagues, Garlic is Nature's Antibiotic.
Garlic kills Urinary Tract Infections and inhibits Leukemia.  It reduces Blood Sugar and is the best herb there is for regulating Blood Pressure.  Four cloves of Garlic every day will eventually and permanently bring down a High Blood Pressure Condition. Garlic kills and expels worms. It increases insulin production. Garlic works great on Kidney Infections and dramatically lowers Cholesterol. It has been proven in numerous lab studies to destroy Cancer and break up tumors. Garlic has been used as a strength builder and has been highly respected throughout history in numerous cultures as a food used to increase Health and Energy.  This herb is vital in helping to remove heavy metals from the body. Garlic has 77 different sulfur compounds and replaces many antibiotics, kills Bacteria, and works great on Strep Throat.  Garlic is great for just about every condition.

Gross..... It stinks:

Growing Garlic:
This great Herb is easy to grow and is the best organic Pest Repellent you can have in your Garden. 
Growing it interspersed throughout your yard will keep away unwanted visitors.  In the fall, plant cloves with the tips pointing up, two inches deep, and six inches apart in direct sun.  Watch them pop up in the spring and harvest when the tops start to turn brown.  Hang them in bundles or braids in a dry place. Next year plant the biggest cloves to keep improving the strain, and eat the littler ones.

This last 2012, we harvested 108 pounds of garlic from our garden.

 Should your eyes water when cooking with Garlic or Onions, this is actually very beneficial.
The properties that make your eyes water, actually cleanse and kill eye infections.



Gold, Plague, Profit and Vampires:
Garlic was worth its weight in gold during the Black Plague and a farmer who had some to sell made it rich.
In those days it was mainly grown by superstitious farmers to keep vampires at bay, for we had not quite reached the Garlic Salt Age and the extinction of the old school Vampire. Modern Vampires, like their ancestors are reputed to not like Garlic but I personally think Vampires are 100% fictional, I have never seen one so it is hard to believe they exist but on the contrary it could be argued that the reason I have never seen one is because my porch frequently looks like this. Fleas, Ticks and Mosquitoes:
I grew up knee deep in the swamps of Florida, spent some good times in the Everglades and in the tick ridden undergrowth of the Appalachian Mountains and it was always a curiosity to my peers that I wound up untouched by these pests while they themselves were miserable. I gather that it was the garlic, I use to eat, as my mother use to put it in everything. Our dogs and cat we're always free of them too due to a daily diet that included Total Pet Nutrition which has Garlic.
