Probing the frontiers of electric car travel

One of the responses to peak oil and to reducing pollution from cars has been the development of the hybrid and the fully electric plug-in car.  Most hybrid batteries don't take the car very far and the Nissan Leaf has very limited range. However, Tesla has advertised 300 mile range for their $100K car.
The driver in the NY Times article below certainly had an adventure, at least one full of angst and discomfort, when he drove the Tesla Model S from Washington DC to Connecticut.
